GETTING a little lost in the winding streets of Cockburn’s east, the driver of a car full of young Aboriginal men in traditional face paint takes directions to get them to their next appointment.
They want to be on time for their performance at Atwell’s Harmony Primary School.
In a fast-paced inside look into a typical, hectic day of Perth-based Aboriginal dance group Wadumbah, the short documentary of the same name features young local faces, after a performance at the school last year was recorded for the film.
Students are captured on stage interacting with performers as well as taking in the spectacle from the audience.
Wadumbah will feature at the Revelation Perth International Film Festival next month, as part of the ‘Get Your Shorts On’ event, which showcases the work of up-and-coming film-makers.
Fremantle-born director and group founder James Webb said he wanted to “keep it real” and create an honest documentary that showed the group’s passion and discipline and the spirit of the Nyoongar performers.
