Game on for helping men

Comments:

MOST men struggle to talk about their feelings and like it or not, many in society still do not accept fully that mental health problems can be as debilitating as physical ones.

We have come a long way in a short time thanks to the Men’s Shed initiative and high-profile people speaking about their own mental health problems.

Putback basketball tournament director Craig Huxtable has gone one step further.

He is organising a social basketball tournament, the main aim of which is to start a dialogue between men about mental health issues.

This means those who want to discuss mental health issues will not only be able to do so in a “safe” environment, but also they will be able to learn to manage some of their stress and anxiety through sport.

Women will be able to support their partners, boyfriends and husbands to attend these sessions without judgment or too many questions.

After all, having mentally happy men around helps us all.
