THE Mission Australia Early Learning Centre in Hilton will be among the first to implement the Federal Government’s new childcare reforms.

Centre director Jess Grundy said the new reforms were “brilliant” because they focused on the children, their interests and group work.

“Every child is focused on individually through a portfolio system where parents are encouraged to get involved in their child’s interests,” she said.

Changes at the Hilton centre, which began last month, include a new curriculum in line with the Early Learning Framework, and new policies and procedures.

Despite concerns that the reforms would affect some parents as they would increase the costs of child care, all Mission Australia centre fees will remain the same as last year.

“The centre is a not-for-profit organisation and any profits will be put back into the centre,” Ms Grundy said.
