Inquiry into flight paths

AIRSERVICES Australia (ASA) will become the subject of a Federal Senate inquiry after speculation that its public consultation process into flight path changes across Perth was flawed.

Liberal Senator Chris Back presented a motion calling for an assessment into ASA's management of aircraft noise and its consultation process.

It was carried in Federal Parliament with support from the Greens and Independent Nick Xenophon.

An ASA spokesman said ASA would assist with inquiry as necessary.

“Safety is the number one priority for all Airservices Australia's operations,” the spokesman said.


Swan MHR Steve Irons welcomed the announcement, after months of lobbying for ASA to make its consultation process more transparent.

Mr Irons had called for ASA to reveal flight path changes, which date back to November 2008.

“This is a good result for local residents,” Mr Irons said.

“This consultation approach meant that no-one was aware of flight path changes - even the press weren't aware of it.

“All of a sudden the phone calls started to my office.

“This was a debacle.”

He said the process was poorly-handled and the community should expect more and get more.

Mr Irons renewed his calls to call for a noise mitigation scheme for homes affected around Perth airport.

Do this properly!

I propose!
We build a new airport in the industrial area near Kwinana.
An airport within 25 minutes from Perth.
On strips of land reclaimed from the sea.
With connection to transport?
Build a sound barrier of beach sand?
Airport noise eliminated.

Why continue to fly planes carrying highly explosive materials over highly populated area's?
We are simply waiting for an accident to happen?
Why when we have the ability, the money, the intelligence to forward plan?
Why continue to fly planes to an airport not connected by public transport? Why not plan for a better future?
One where no-one is inconvenienced?
An airport reclaimed from the sea in an area which is already full of industrial noise, so would not be an issue. Connection to the current rail, bus system can be easily integrated.

Imagine this....
All flights which come in from anywhere?
The flight path tracks into Perth along a corridor off the coast so there is no noise complaint?

Why don't we do that?

Under the Flightpath!

It's been a long time coming for those of us Hills residents who have been forced to live under the new post Nov 2008 flight paths. People say - "you knew the flight paths were there when you brought" or "sell up an move" or "they have to go somewhere" etc. But the whole story is many of us didn't have any aircraft overflights prior to Nov 2008, nor were we warned that they would be changed to affect us. As for "they have to go somewhere", well they used to fly over the coastal plain where the majority of Perth's air travelers live rather than over a few thousand hillbillies to the East. Sure noise complaints have decreased on the average. One part of the whole debate that is often missed is that the Hills areas are about 300m higher than the coastal plain where the planes used to fly. So the noise is 300m closer to our homes, homes where the booming and screaming jets or chain saw turbos are more easily heard against the low background noise -
