MIDWIVES, mums and their babies were the focus of International Midwives Day in Joondalup on Wednesday, May 5.
Australian Institute of Holistic Medicine students provided massages for midwives at Community Midwifery WA (CMWA) in Davidson Terrace.
Earlier, mothers and their babies enjoyed a special morning tea and decorated cake at the monthly group they attend with homebirth midwives.
CMWA manager Pip Brennan said the day had been a fantastic celebration of midwives and their role in the community.
“International Midwives Day is our opportunity to show the midwives how much we appreciate their skills and dedicated practice in the birthing community,” she said.
“We hope to make this an annual tradition.” Ms Brennan said CMWA ensured women and their families were aware of birth choices through workshops and advice.
It provided a free homebirth service in partnership with WA Health and resource centres in Joondalup and North Fremantle.
