Thunderstruck... two AC/DC concerts were not as well received by some residents as they were by fans. Thunderstruck... two AC/DC concerts were not as well received by some residents as they were by fans.

RESIDENTS from as far away as Claremont and City Beach were thunderstruck by the recent AC/DC concerts held at Subiaco Oval.

The City of Subiaco received 25 noise complaints after the Saturday, March 6, gig and 12 complaints following the second show two nights later.

Subiaco Mayor Heather Henderson said a few ratepayers were distressed by the volume of the concerts.

“The sound permeated to a larger area than in the past – it went right through to Jolimont, Hollywood and Claremont,” she said.

“I’d put it down to a still night and the weather conditions.”

Complete with a fireworks finale, the concerts marked a return to Perth for the popular Aussie rockers after a nine-year break. More than 45,000 fans attended each of the two shows.

The majority of complaints were from nearby residents, but people from Floreat, Wembley Downs and City Beach, had also contacted the council.

Subiaco chief executive Stephen Tindale said the concerts were held at some of the limited times that shows could go over permissible noise levels,

“But we will be reviewing noise measurements taken on the night and see if any remedies are available to us,” he said.

Mrs Henderson said the concerts had proven a success and most people living near the venue were already well aware of the effects of large-scale events at Subiaco Oval.

People will complain until venues get moved out to the sticks. Then houses will be built near the venues and people will complain and off we go again! I have to put up with barking dogs, screaming kids next door every day from dawn to dusk but I will not move, it's life and you just have to learn to live with it. If you move 'somewhere quiet' then soon enough you'll have noisy neighbours or venues encroaching on your peace. We all deserve the right to peace and quiet but unless they're selling plots on the moon I doubt anyone will truly have that so we have to learn to cope. Give and take, respect for each other etc.

Obviously these residents predate the venue, people, crowds, noise!!! Hey folks its a city, not the country, not hay st circa 1910. I have attended many concerts although not this one, too each their own in taste, but really, complaining about some noise that was finished by 10.30 come on, my neighbours parties go much longer into the next morning, and guess what, i still sleep, i still work, im still alive..no damage done! Buy opposite a pub, complain about the bands, buy under the flightpath, complain about the planes, buy inner city, complain about the garbo's trucks, buy near a major family venue complain about the noise...time to put to rest the expression whinging poms, whinging aussies more like!

I was unable to find the word 'Whinger' in my dictionary - so write simply as a complainant. One correspondent claimed whingers should be glad they got the concert for free - but this one would not even want it if they payed me to suffer it. People attend concerts have the right to listen to the music, but those live within earshot and who choose not to attend also have the right not to have it foisted on us. I am actually an AC/DC fan but I enjoy the music in my own privacy with a set of earphones on - so others in the house, who do not share my taste in music, are not imposed upon as we were last week. I would still object whichever band was booked. Music festivals and concerts should be held many K's away from residential areas as in Europe. I wonder how the various people, who have defended the level of noise, would also do so if the concert had been Tchaikovsky's 1812 at the same volume? I don't believe anyone would want to criticise the band - it's just an inappropriate venue!

Just can't believe how people whine, it was a concert. Whine because the Speedway was too noise, bet they don't whine when the Eagles are playing at Subi Oval. I'm sure some people would whine if they're big toe was OK. Get over it, to many others things in the world to worry about than a rock concert, wonder if they whine about the trains that go by as well, smell the roses people smell the roses.

count your self lucky, armadale council have done nothing about my noise complaints regarding clearing land for housing development at my back fence for the last month, 6.30 am the machines are warmed up, 7am the vibrations and noise starts and we get no quiet until 6 at night.
2 nights of one of best rocks bands in the world, if only i was so lucky. try the endless beep beep beep beep beep as 20 earth movers reverse back and forth past your house.
bloody whingers

If the residents of Subiaco don't like loud concerts maybe they should think about moving to Busselton or somewhere more quiet...whingers

I am not really a big AC/DC fan, but I am all for concerts and this was an opportunity for a lot of Perth residents not to miss. Concerts are meant to be loud and over powering and customers pay for this entertainment. Despite the fact that some residents complained that they could hear it from as far as Claremont, just as well it was only for 2 shows. I have more noise everyday as I live in the flight path and planes landing and taking off at all sorts of hours. I heard AC/DC warm up during one of their shows as I work in Subiaco and I thought it sounded great. Residents have got it understand that when events like this take place, its not forever.

I was at the concert and it was loud but it should be....it's a rock concert. If the concert went on until past midnight I could understand local residents being upset but it was finished by 10.30pm. AC/DC are an Australian icon, they were playing for just two evenings......surely those that complained could be just a little bit more tollerant.

Was an excellent concert and I did not think it was too loud. I was in section 2 and the concert rocked :-)

Awesome - getting to hear the tunes of one of Australia's best bands - for free! A good story to tell your mates while having a beer at the pub...not a reason to sit down and write a noise complaint about!
