FLIGHTS in and out of Perth Airport continue to be disrupted by bad weather.

A Perth Airport representative said a number of flights had been cancelled or delayed since mid-morning.

“Information from the Bureau of Meteorology indicates that the weather is likely to remain the same for the foreseeable future,” she said.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for this afternoon and this evening.

The representative said because of the weather, airline staff were unable to service aircraft due to safety concerns and there were currently 17 aircraft awaiting bay allocation.

“Perth Airport will assist airlines in facilitation of aircraft when the weather improves and airlines determine it is safe to resume services,” she said.

People due to fly in or out of Perth are being encouraged to contact their airline prior to arriving at the airport to find out the status of their flight.

There are reports of busy terminals at the Perth Airport with people waiting for the weather to pass.

Meanwhile, Fire and Emergency Service Authority officers attended the international terminal earlier today in response to what was initially thought to be a gas leak.

The odour that caused concern was actually a personal defence spray, which was disposed of by a passenger, visitor or staff member in the male toilets.

The terminal remained open but the area was cordoned off.
