MIRRABOOKA is the only place in the southern hemisphere where you can enjoy the hits and giggles of bumper cars... on ice.

Xtreme Ice Arena, which opened this month, is one of seven ice rinks worldwide that have bumper cars on ice.

Owner Casey Minson, an Australian ice hockey representative, said it was a state of the art facility.

Mr Minson, who completed an ice technician course in Canada, said the rink had one of the best surfaces in Australia.

“This is the latest technology, straight from the US,” he said.

“It’s a bigger venue, with more room for spectators and the ice is a lot smoother.”

He expected a professional ice hockey team to be based at the venue from early next year.

“We are still in the process of finalising arrangements with the Asian teams and our own side,” he said.

“But we should have return fixtures with teams from China, Korea and Thailand.”

The venue would also host WA Ice Hockey Association games and State figure skating competitions.

Xtreme Ice Arena is open seven days a week and closes late on Friday and Saturday nights.

DJs provide the music for the evening sessions.
