WESTERN Suburbs Cricket Club lost its final round of WA Suburban Turf competition match to Bassendean last Saturday.
Defending 171, Wests started well when debutant Stephen Dark trapped Allan Leslie in front.
Shortly after, Dark had Marcus Santarini caught behind and it was 2-13.
Ryan Jacobs and Ben O’Brien then steadied for Bassendean and methodically pushed the total forward. The pair added 67 for the third- wicket stand that ended when Rick Warner-Jones had Jacobs caught at short cover for 34.
Two balls later Warner-Jones had former Sri Lankan international Suresh Perera lbw and Wests had a chance at 4-80.
Aaron Onyon then joined O’Brien and took the score to 117 at tea, with some aggressive hitting over the on side.
The pair advanced Bassendean to 163 when Onyon (40) was caught on the long on boundary.
Simon Daly then bowled Sunjay Chauvan but Jamie Tulloch and O’Brien took the home side past Wests’ total with four wickets to spare.
O’Brien finished on a match-winning 104 not out and Tulloch on 31.
Wests finish the season in ninth place with three wins and two draws.
Wests’ 10th grade and one-day division two sides will host semi-finals next week at Dalkeith Oval and College Park respectively.
Fifth grade and one-day division one sides will play away semi-finals against Ocean Ridge and Melville respectively.
