Vive la difference: Is this Citroen the answer? Vive la difference: Is this Citroen the answer?

ZERO fuel consumption, zero emissions and zero engine noise.

No wonder Citroën’s has named its electric car the C-Zero.

Unveiled at the European Motor Show in Brussels, the electric solution to modern-day urban driving features compact dimensions, rapid charge and generous range for day-to-day car journeys.

Its permanent magnet synchronous motor is powered by a latest-generation lithium-ion battery system and delivers 47kW from 3000 to 6000rpm.

Maximum torque of 180Nm is available from 0 to 2000rpm.

The batteries can be charged by plugging the supply cord into a 220-volt socket or, by using a 400-volt supply for an 80 per cent charge in 30 minutes.

Despite measuring just 3.48m long, C-Zero offers a spacious and comfortable four seat interior with  a 166 litre boot.

It can blitz along at 130km/h get to 100km/h in 15 seconds and a range of around 120km.

The car, under consideration for the Australian and New Zealand markets, will be launched in Europe towards year-end.

It's about time and should be compulsory in all cities @ 5km radius depending on the size of the city. Otherwise use public transport if you work in the city.

Excellent idea but I hope it does not go the way numerous Electric cars have gone having been destroyed by their makers from, what I believe, is pressure from the Oil Giants. All we need now is some idea of price

Great for now (on Golf clubs), BUT no so when the batteries need replacement. After 500 hours of recharges, costs will be tremendous. The pollution from trowing out those little batteries en mass will be a environmental disaster. Has anyone thought of radiation or heat dangers to occupants (so many AA size batteries)? Also consider the rise in KW charges which will go up and up. The more electric cars be on-road, the more $ they will charge. Zero Carbon footprint is also a farce due to more needs of power generation demands.
My overall verdict: those electric powered cars will be way more expensive then conventional powered vehicles.
